ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA Orders Production Lines For New Stainless Steel Cold Rolling Mill in Calvert, Alabama
MOBILE, ALABAMA [February 22, 2008]
ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, LLC today announced it has placed an order for the turnkey delivery of an annealing and pickling line for hot-rolled coils for its plant in Calvert, Alabama. Additional orders have been placed for an annealing and pickling line for cold rolled coils, three cold rolling mills and a skin pass mill. These components will be part of the new stainless steel cold rolling mill built by ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA.
The line for hot rolled coils is designed for an annual capacity of 750,000 tons. Its main purpose will be to process hot-rolled material for the production of cold-rolled strip. In addition, the hot rolled coils will be used, for example, in the manufacture of pipe, chemical process equipment and offshore installations.
The coils coming from the hot annealing and pickling line will be further processed in the three cold rolling mills. All three mills are of the Sendzimir type and are designed to provide the whole range of products required by the market. The total capacity of the three mills is scheduled for 400,000 tons.
The cold annealing and pickling line will produce an annual volume of up to 500,000 tons. A skin pass mill is integrated in this line. This mill ensures a high quality stainless steel surface finish.
In November 2007, ThyssenKrupp Steel USA and ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA broke ground at the construction site of their new 3,500-acre joint facility in Calvert, Alabama. The new plant will process carbon and stainless steel for high-value applications by manufacturers in the United States and throughout North America. It will serve industries including automotive, construction, and household appliances.
