ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA Announces First Round Maintenance Technicians Hired: First industrial positions filled for new Calvert facility to train in Germany
MOBILE, ALABAMA [June 18, 2008]
ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, LLC, today announced that it has hired its first round of team members who will operate its new stainless steel facility being developed in Calvert, Alabama. The facility is part of a $3.7 billion steel and stainless steel processing complex being developed jointly by the steel and stainless segments of ThyssenKrupp AG.
The hiring of the first 20 maintenance team members for the stainless facility is a major milestone, as this group will mark the first wave of the initial positions which will run the new world-class stainless processing facility. The cold rolling mill for the stainless operation is due to start up end of 2009, with general startup of the broader steel and stainless steel complex expected in 2010 and beyond. After coming on board June 23, these team members will spend three weeks in intensive orientation with ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA and the Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) program in the Mobile area before traveling to Germany for months of on-the-job training in the company’s operations at ThyssenKrupp Nirosta in Krefeld, Düsseldorf-Benrath and Dillenburg.
“We are delighted to welcome our first team members into the ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA family,” said Dr. Uli Albrecht-Frueh, Chief Executive Officer of ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, LLC. “This group and those to follow are crucial to our success here in North America. They will be operating our brand new facility, and we have been through a long, thoughtful and deliberative process with one another to ensure the right fit. We could not have found a better team to lead the way. Our leadership exists to serve them and ensure their success. That is why we are here. That is what we are all about. This will be a tremendous opportunity for them to grow and develop new skills.”
In May 2007, ThyssenKrupp announced that it would build a new state-of-the-art steel and stainless steel processing facility in Alabama. Company executives and national, state and local leaders broke ground in November 2007, and the company announced opportunities for employment earlier this year. The facility will process carbon steel and stainless steel for high-value applications by manufacturers in the U.S. and throughout North America.
The new facility is considered to be one of the largest private industrial development projects in the United States over the next decade.
